Thet Hay Thar Win

International Student Community Ambassador (ISCA)

Home Country: Myanmar
GW School / Program: ESIA, BA in International Affairs

Hay Thar is a rising senior from Yangon, Myanmar, majoring in International Affairs with a minor in International Business. Having experienced the political challenges in her home country, she hopes to pursue a career in immigration law, where she can advocate for and support individuals navigating complex legal and humanitarian challenges.

After moving to the United States alone at sixteen to attend boarding school, then continuing her education at GW, Hay Thar experienced firsthand both the excitement and the challenges of adapting to a new environment. Through getting involved on campus, she found a sense of belonging that made GW feel like home. As an ISCA, she hopes to provide that same support for other international students by helping them navigate campus life and simply being someone they can rely on during their transition.

Outside of academics, Hay Thar enjoys discovering new restaurants, traveling, attending concerts, and capturing everyday moments through photography. She loves meeting people from different backgrounds and believes that some of the most meaningful parts of the international student experience come from the friendships and memories built along the way. If you ever want to try out a new spot in town, she’s definitely your go-to girl!
