After You Arrive

Students hang out together on Kogan Plaza

After arriving in the U.S. please visit the Mandatory In-Person Check-in page for information on the first steps you'll need to complete prior to arriving at the ISO.  Because In-Person Check-In coincides with the busiest times of year you should expect the process to take some time. Please allow yourself at least 30 minutes for In-Person Check-in.  At peak times  it could take longer. While visiting the ISO please visit the Welcome Center at the International Services Office. No Appointment is needed.

If you have NOT been able to complete E-Check In please bring copies of the following documents to the ISO and an ISO staff member will help guide you with the Check In Process:

  • your I-20/DS2019
  • passport bio pages
  • passport pages with any American visas
  • copies of your I-94 record
  • completed Check-in Form

After your arrival in the U.S., as required by U.S. federal law, please remember to update your local and permanent addresses using the GWeb system. The ISO has step-by-step instructions on how to update your address.  You can use GWeb to report changes in address 365-days a year, 24-hours a day. You are required to report your address when you arrive in the U.S., and within ten days of moving for the duration of your stay in the U.S. on an F or J visa. Failure to report a change of address is a serious immigration violation and there may be penalties associated with failure to report your address change.

All F-1 and J-1 newly admitted international students are required to attend International Student Orientation.

Once you have completed E and In-Person Check-In, updated your address, and have attended orientation, you will have completed the steps required for you to begin your studies at GW!
