Preparing for the New U.S. Presidential Administration

November 26, 2024

Dear GW International Community,

We understand that the recent U.S. election may have raised concerns or uncertainties for many of you. As the country navigates the transition of the U.S. Presidential administrations, please know that the International Services Office is here to provide guidance and support.

If you have questions about your status, need assistance adjusting to new policies, or simply need a space to reflect, we are here for you. Your well-being is our priority, and we encourage you to reach out to us and other resources on campus if you need support during this time.

If you are traveling abroad during the winter break, we also suggest returning to the United States prior to the presidential inauguration day of January 20, 2025. This is not a requirement or mandate from GW. It is not based on any current U.S. government policy or recommendation. However, because the new presidential administration can enact new policies on their first day in office (January 20), and based on previous experience with travel bans that were enacted in the first Trump Administration in 2016, we are making this advisory out of an abundance of caution to hopefully prevent any possible travel disruption to members of our international community.

Join us on December 12 for our Speak Easy Sips event to take part in activities that allow you to connect with ISO staff, discuss your concerns, and build community with your peers during final exams. You are a vital part of our campus community, and we want to ensure you feel supported and informed during this time.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
